2019 New Year's Greeting
Thank you for visiting our homepage. First, I wish you all happiness and good health in 2019.
The Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Moldova is in its fourth year after opening in 2016. The relationship between Japan and Moldova has been enjoying a steady progress in various fields, 2018 was a wonderful year when many good results were achieved. In July, H. E. Mr. Tudor Ulianovshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova visited Japan and held a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, H. E. Mr. Taro Kono. It was a fruitful visit for the development of good relations between the two countries.
Moldovan citizens' feelings toward Japan are extremely good. In addition to traditional culture such as flower arrangements, young people's interest in contemporary Japanese culture such as anime and manga is also quite high. Japanese martial arts like judo, karate and kendo are also popular. In this context, I would like to mention that a delegation of Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, the host town for Moldovan team at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympics Games in 2020, visited Moldova and donated sets of badminton rackets.
In 2019, we will continue to support Moldova’s efforts for achieving economic and social stability. The Embassy of Japan, closely cooperating with JICA, Japan Foundation and local organizations in Moldova, will do its utmost for further development of the relationship between Japan and Moldova. Next month, we are going to hold a "Japanese Doll Exhibition" and a "Ukiyo-e Exhibition", and we hope that these cultural events would promote Moldovans’ interest in Japan.
I appreciate your understanding and kind support.
January 2019
Masanobu Yoshii
Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova
