Signing Ceremony for the Project for “Modernization of Agricultural Machineries and Equipment” and the Project for “the Improvement of Digitization Equipment of the National Library”

On June 29, H.E. Katayama Yoshihiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova and H.E. Tulea Oleg, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova signed within the Ministry’s premises, the Exchange of Notes regarding the implementation of two projects: Project for “Modernization of Agricultural Machineries and Equipment” (Loan amounting to 2,059 mil. JPY); Project for “the Improvement of Digitization Equipment of the National Library” (Grant amounting to 43.7 mil. JPY).
The Minister Tulea declared that the Japanese loan would be granted during a very difficult time for Moldovan agriculture and would be a real support for local farmers.
Referring to cultural grant, the Minister mentioned that it would be used for procurement of modern equipment necessary for digitization of national cultural heritage. In the end, Minister Tulea said that Japan is a reliable friend and would like to continue the dialogue.
The Ambassador Katayama stated that the agriculture is very important for the economy and human well-being in Moldova, and therefore, Japan has supported this field in the last 20 years.
Also, the Ambassador noted that the equipment provided under the cultural grant would help to preserve the very rich cultural heritage of Moldova, while future generations would have access to many works of art and literature kept at the National Library and other profile institutions. At the same time, the Ambassador Katayama welcomed the efforts of Moldova on European integration, respecting the principles of democracy, rule of law, protection of human rights and market economy.
