Signing Ceremony of the Economic Recovery Development Policy Loan

On July 10, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova H.E. Mr. YAMADA Yoichiro and the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Moldova Ms. Veronica SIREȚEANU have signed the Exchange of Notes on the Economic Recovery Development Policy Loan at the Ministry of Finance. On the same day, the Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mr. Naoki ANDO and Finance Minister Sirețeanu signed the loan agreement concerning the above mentioned programme.
 Through this programme, the Government of Japan will provide the Government of Moldova with a loan of up to 13.5 billion yen for a term of 40 years. This programme is expected to contribute to Moldova’s socio-economic stability and the promotion of its development efforts, by mitigating impacts of the invasion of Ukraine on Moldovan citizens and displaced persons from Ukraine, building resilience to reduce vulnerability to economic crises, and reforming institutions to strengthen competitiveness, through the financial assistance to Moldovan government
 
At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Yamada expressed the willingness to cooperate with the Government of Moldova in order to promote further European integration of Moldova and to address the challenges posed by the invasion of Ukraine. He also stated that Japan stood by Moldova in its effort to build a democratic, prosperous, and secure future.
JICA Senior Vice President Ando expressed JICA's sincere respect for the tremendous efforts of the government and people of Moldova since the outbreak of the military invasion of Ukraine, and said that through this loan, JICA would support their tireless efforts for the crisis response and the institutional reforms. He also expressed his hope that JICA's cooperation will contribute to overcome the unprecedented difficulties in Moldova.
Minister of Finance Sirețeanu expressed her gratitude to the Government of Japan and said that this assistance will be used within the 2023 state budget to promote economic stability and development in Moldova by supporting political and institutional reforms and strengthening resilience and competitiveness.
